ModMaster isn't a kitchen mat with a logo. Every element (the pockets, the ruler, the edge, the thickness, the finish) was decided against one question: does this make watchmaking easier, safer, or cleaner?
Most watchmaker mats are secretly just pretty silicone, and silicone generates static. We specified a matte, anti-static compound so hairsprings don't cling, dust doesn't accumulate, and small parts don't skitter across the surface when you lift the loupe.
Six evenly-spaced cups along the top edge, deep enough to hold a crown without it bouncing out, yet shallow enough to fish out a 1 mm screw with tweezers. Use one per component class: case screws, movement screws, stems, crowns, gaskets, spring bars. Chaos becomes inventory.
A 30-centimetre ruler is embossed directly into the front edge of the mat, with both centimetres and millimetres. Measure a strap, a lug width, or a link drop without breaking your workflow to find a caliper. And because it's embossed, it won't rub off like printed markings.
A raised ridge along the rear edge forms a stem channel: a narrow valley that catches crowns, screws, and springs before they escape over the back of the mat. It's the feature you'll forget about for weeks, then be grateful for the first time a spring bar rolls.
At 3 mm, the mat is thick enough to cushion a movement dropped from 2 mm and absorb minor impacts, but low-profile enough that a case press, movement holder, or loupe stand sits flat. The silicone is rated for heat so hot crystals, soldering jigs, and hairdryer-shaped straps won't mark it.
Watchmaker green isn't a style choice. It's a tradition. The hue sits at the low end of the visual spectrum, reducing eye fatigue during long sessions at the loupe and making silver and gold components easier to spot against the surface. The ModMaster wordmark is embossed into the corner, not printed.
Take the features home. ModMaster ships fast via Amazon FBA. In the workshop by the weekend.
