Most appreciated in early testing:

The depth of the parts pockets · the anti-static feel · how flat it sits under a case press · the stem channel catching at least one crown on day one.

Exactly what a modder needs

I've been using random kitchen mats for years. This is the first surface that actually feels designed. The pockets are deep, the stem channel caught a crown on day one, and the ruler is a lifesaver for strap work. Watchmaker green is a nice touch.

The anti-static surface is the real win

I work on a lot of vintage movements and static is my nemesis. Hairsprings used to cling to my old mat constantly. ModMaster doesn't do that. The matte finish is understated but it's the most important feature and the marketing undersells it.

Finally a mat that doesn't slide

I have a glass-topped bench and every silicone mat I've owned has slid around. This one stays put even when I'm pressing a case back. The 3 mm thickness is the sweet spot: cushioned enough to feel safe, thin enough the case press sits flat.

Well-made and thoughtful; would love a larger option

Quality is excellent and the details (embossed logo, embossed ruler, raised edge) all feel premium. My only ask is a larger version for wider bench work. For the size it is, though, it's hard to beat.

Wipes clean, even after oils

Tested it with 9010 and D5 oils; both wiped off without a trace. The silicone doesn't absorb anything, and isopropyl doesn't discolor it. A small thing, but it's what separates a good tool from a throwaway.

Handsome on the bench

Looks as good as it works. The green is that classic watchmaker shade and the embossed wordmark is subtle, not loud branding. It's the kind of tool you leave out instead of putting away.

Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

Is the silicone actually anti-static, or is that marketing?+
The silicone compound we use is formulated with a matte, low-surface-energy finish that measurably reduces static cling compared to standard glossy silicone. Hairsprings and small parts don't stick to it the way they do to a typical kitchen-style mat. It's not an ESD workstation (that would require a grounded conductive surface), but for watch work, it's the right balance of cost and performance.
Will the ruler wear off over time?+
No. The ruler is embossed directly into the silicone. It's part of the mat's geometry, not printed or painted. Same for the ModMaster wordmark in the corner, which is also embossed. Nothing to fade, rub off, or peel.
How do I clean it?+
Wipe with isopropyl alcohol for oils and lubricants, or warm soapy water for general cleaning. It's also dishwasher-safe on the top rack if you want a deep clean. Silicone doesn't absorb liquids or odors, so the mat should stay fresh indefinitely.
Does it really hold small screws, or do they bounce out of the pockets?+
The pockets are 3 mm deep and 24 mm across, sized specifically to cradle crowns, stems, and small screws without them rolling out. The silicone's grip also helps. You can turn the mat nearly vertical and the parts won't fall out.
Is it heat-resistant? Can I use it with hot tools?+
Yes, rated up to 230 °C / 446 °F. You can set warm crystals, hairdryer-shaped straps, and soldering jigs on it without marring. We don't recommend direct contact with open flame or a live soldering iron tip, but for typical watchmaking heat work, it's well within range.
Will it slide on my bench?+
No. The non-slip silicone grips most surfaces including glass, wood, metal, and laminate. Even during operations that involve downward pressure (case presses, crystal lifts), the mat stays put.
Is it only for watchmaking?+
It was designed for watchmaking, which is why the pockets, ruler, and edge channel exist. But the same features work beautifully for modding, small electronics, jewelry repair, and general hobby work. If you deal with small parts, the mat earns its place.
How does shipping work? How fast will I receive it?+
ModMaster ships via Amazon FBA, which means Amazon Prime two-day delivery in most regions and full Amazon return protection. Orders placed before Amazon's cutoff typically arrive within 2 business days.
What's the warranty?+
ModMaster carries a one-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects, handled through Amazon. If the silicone tears, delaminates, or arrives damaged, open a claim from your Amazon order page and Amazon will process the replacement or refund under their A-to-z Guarantee. All warranty, return, and replacement requests are managed through Amazon.
Will there be other sizes or colors?+
We're launching with one mat (the 450 × 300 mm watchmaker green) because we wanted to get it right before expanding. Larger sizes and a charcoal colorway are on the roadmap for later in 2026.
