Early tester feedback and the questions we hear most often about ModMaster.
I've been using random kitchen mats for years. This is the first surface that actually feels designed. The pockets are deep, the stem channel caught a crown on day one, and the ruler is a lifesaver for strap work. Watchmaker green is a nice touch.
I work on a lot of vintage movements and static is my nemesis. Hairsprings used to cling to my old mat constantly. ModMaster doesn't do that. The matte finish is understated but it's the most important feature and the marketing undersells it.
I have a glass-topped bench and every silicone mat I've owned has slid around. This one stays put even when I'm pressing a case back. The 3 mm thickness is the sweet spot: cushioned enough to feel safe, thin enough the case press sits flat.
Quality is excellent and the details (embossed logo, embossed ruler, raised edge) all feel premium. My only ask is a larger version for wider bench work. For the size it is, though, it's hard to beat.
Tested it with 9010 and D5 oils; both wiped off without a trace. The silicone doesn't absorb anything, and isopropyl doesn't discolor it. A small thing, but it's what separates a good tool from a throwaway.
Looks as good as it works. The green is that classic watchmaker shade and the embossed wordmark is subtle, not loud branding. It's the kind of tool you leave out instead of putting away.
